Döbriach, on the shore of Lake Millstätter See, and the garnet town of Radenthein lie at the foot of the Mirnock Mountain.
A fabulously beautiful natural setting at the entrance to the Nockberge Biosphere Park, Lake Millstätter See, excellent facilities for hiking and cycling, and genuine hospitality make this municipality an attractive holiday destination.
A popular hiking destination is the Mirnock Mountain, which is swathed in legend and was regarded as a place of power and energy even by the Celts. As well as breathtaking views, rare medicinal plants, spring water rich in minerals, lush green meadows and unique rock formations, it is also well worth discovering the ruby red garnets, known as the “firestone of love”, along its pathways.
If you want to find out more about the history of the garnet, you should visit the “Granatium” in Radenthein. In a small garnet mining area visitors can extract the red stones from the rock themselves, wash them and then have them professionally worked and ground. And if you are interested in legends, in no event should you miss “Sagamundo” – House of Storytelling in Döbriach, where you can also walk in the footsteps of the Mirnock Giant.
In Advent, Carinthia’s only life-sized crib, with around 50 figures, draws visitors to the centre of Radenthein.
