Gmünd

At the entrance gate to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve lies the medieval town of Gmünd. Over the last decades, the culture initiative based here has managed to invigorate the urban municipality with an extensive cultural offering, and has made it famous far beyond the national border.

All year round, visitors can look forward to numerous exhibitions, seminars, concerts, open workshops and ateliers of local and international artists. The Stadtturmgalerie invites visitors to a special exhibition every year.

Also worth recommending: a visit to the Alte Burg castle and a journey of discovery through the Pankratium “House of Amazement” with interactive experience stations.

In Gmünd you will also find the only private Porsche Museum, where the first vehicles to bear the name Porsche were actually built between 1944 and 1950.

If you are hungry for exercise, the region has countless options: hiking, cycling, riding, climbing, fishing, running, Nordic walking or canyoning.

In winter too the snow-covered Gmünd with its enchanting narrow streets creates a welcoming atmosphere. The winter sports options in the nearby surroundings range from skiing on the Goldeck, Katschberg or in the Innerkrems, cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoe hikes to ice climbing in the Malta Valley and tobogganing on the Stubeck.
