Kötschach-Mauthen

Nestled between the Gailtal and Carnic Alps, in the border region next to Friuli in Italy, you will find Kötschach-Mauthen.

This is a paradise for walkers, mountaineers and climbers (“mountain climber village”), mountain bikers and rafters, and from a culinary perspective it is the “most delicious corner” of Carinthia.

Kötschach-Mauthen is the centre of the first Slow Food Travel Region in the world, which is devoted to the “craft of food” under the motto “Take your time!” You can take the time to bake bread at a bread baking workshop, see cheese, bacon and butter being produced, or find out how honey is made. Visitors can actively join in the production, acquire ancient knowledge and learn traditional crafts.

At the traditional cheese festival in September, you can sample international, national and regional cheese varieties in grand style.

In winter the local area includes a small family ski region with a handful of lifts. With the “Schneeflocke” lift card, all children under ten staying at a member establishment can ski for free!
