At over 1,000 metres above sea level and situated on the slopes of the Packalpe and Koralpe, the municipality of Preitenegg offers perfect conditions for hikers and mountain bikers in particular.
Lake Hebalmsee, which is situated within the municipality and was originally a reservoir for making artificial snow, is an inviting spot for relaxing and sunbathing.
In winter there are attractive options for cross-country skiing.
Preitenegg is known beyond the national border primarily for the fact that the Schell family’s farm is in Oberpreitenegg. Oscar winner Maximilian Schell spent part of his childhood here. In 2005 he was awarded honorary citizenship, and in 2014 he was given his final resting place in the municipal cemetery.
