Klopeiner See – Südkärnten

Seven lakes of drinking water quality guarantee summer fun in the form of stand up paddling, diving, pedal boating, swimming, jumping, sliding and workouts right by the shores. Hikers are well-catered for in the Klopeiner See – Südkärnten region too. Its network of trails covers around 1,200 km between 440 and 2,139 m above sea level, from the Saualpe in the north to the majestic Karawanken in the south. Tip: The area surrounding the southern Carinthian Karawanken has been a UNESCO Global Geopark since 2015 with a wide range of guided tours to choose from.

Bikers are spoilt for choice: from the 2 to the 4 and the 6-lake circuit, Bleiburg Art Cycle Path, Völkermarkt Cultural Cycle Path, stages of the Carinthian Lake Loop, Drau Cycle Path or an e-bike tour to the sunny town of Diex and the impressive fortified churches of the wild and romantic Saualpe – there is a route to suit every taste and ability. Legendary MTB ZONE Bikepark Petzen offers trails from easy to difficult and the multi-award-winning Flow Country Trail is the crowning glory, winding its way almost 12 km down the Petzen.

Lavanttal

Nestled between the Koralm and the Saualpe, the Lavanttal is one of the most attractive valleys in southern Austria. More than 1000 km of marked, family-friendly trails up to 2,100 m above sea level promise unforgettable hiking experiences for young and old. Tip: Have Carinthia quite literally at your feet on the Saualpe with its gentle mountain tops and breathtaking panoramic views. Cyclists can choose between leisurely cycling along the Lavant and Drau Cycle Paths or 450 km of marked mountain bike tours. 

There is a long tradition of fruit growing in the Lavanttal, producing cider, apple juice and brandies of excellent quality.
